found

found on June 8th inside of a book being sold at my library.

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing + forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weakness.

Love is content w. the present, it hopes for the future, and it doesn't brood over the past. It's the day-in and day-out chronicle of irritations, problems, compromises, small disappointments, big victories and working toward common goals.

If you have love in your life, it can make up for a great may things that are missing. If you don't have love in your life, no matter what else there is, it's not enough.

-Attributed to many, originally (perhaps) by Ann Landers

something to consider, maybe.

"How poor are they that have not patience!
What wound did ever heal but by degrees?
Thou know'st we work by wit, and not by witchcraft;
And wit depends on dilatory time."

oh kurt vonnegut, how i love thee.

Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.

I'm going to be an awesome adult someday.

"Would you hit a woman with a baby?—No, I'd hit her with a brick."

"Speak roughly to your little boy and beat him when he sneezes,
He only does it to annoy because he knows it teases."
-Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

I intend to follow the advice of my favorite authors. I think that it will turn out well.

Wednesday Wisdom

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.”
Dalai Lama

Originally, I was going to try to find a quote about aspirations because I was thinking about all of the things that I aspire to be. This will be another post for another time.

Instead, I found this quote. It's nice. It's true. It's my plan for tomorrow.

I have too much free time during the summer. I am going to try to do something with my day. Tomorrow, I will be kind. I will smile at strangers on the street. I will open doors for people. I will save kittens in trees, cure sickness, and solve global warming.

My library
Was dukedom large enough.
Shakespeare
(The Tempest)

---

Reason for choosing this quote? I'm volunteering at the local library this summer. (I am so cool.) I help kids pick out books, I shelve things, and I help them with craft projects every Wednesday.

Wednesday crafts are too much fun. Made pinwheels last week, and having a roomful of children playing with handmade pinwheels is adorable. The project took about two hours, considering that every kid cut and decorated their own wheels, and because there were only enough scissors for half of them to use at one time.

Another bonus about working with children: I don't have to pretend to be mature in the least. I make masks, play with stickers, color pinwheels, and read children's books. Is it even possible to not enjoy the library?

“I like boring things.”
Andy Warhol

I like simple things.

Like bubbles, and air, and laughter,

and sand, and sailing,

and the smell of books, and learning new things,

and being alive.

Wednesday Wisdom: Graduation edition!

At commencement you wear your square-shaped mortarboards. My hope is that from time to time you will let your minds be bold, and wear sombreros.

“If dandelions were hard to grow, they would be most welcome on any lawn.”
Andrew V. Mason

-♥-

Andrew V. Mason has some great things to say. Expect more quotes from him at some point.

Wait- what is this? A post that isn't just a quote? The horrors!

I thought that I'd tell the world about my walk home from my bus-stop today. (Because I know everyone wants to hear about it!)

I stopped at the hardware store at the corner next to my bus-stop, and looked at different colors of stains. (For my typeset tray! Progress is being made!) I looked around for a short while, and then left the store. (without buying anything. I felt bad.)

I waved at two policemen on bikes as I passed the firehouse. There was a queen anne's lace plant growing in a front yard, and I picked a flower off of the plant. (I'll repay the owner at some point.)

Something about Queen Anne's Lace: it's beautiful when you have it in your hand. Really, it is. I can't say that I ever realized that before today. I've loved it for a long time though. When I was younger, I used to pick the tiny branches of little blossoms off of the stem and pretend that they were the bouquets of a fairy queen.

When I turned onto my street, I met a new friend. He was wearing a suit.

"That flower for me?" He called out, as I twirled the stem between my fingers.

I hadn't known he was in the road, as I was far too captivated with the pattern in the brick sidewalk than I should have been. "Want it to be?" I replied, after a moment.

"Sure!" He smiled, laughed, and held out his hand. I skipped to the middle of the street, as that was where he had been walking, and gave him the flower.

I suppose that I must have said goodbye, though I don't remember it.

"I won't forget this!" He said, still laughing. I couldn't help but smile.

He turned away, and I walked the rest of the block until I reached my driveway. As I turned into it, I looked back, but he had already turned a corner.

I hope he had a good day.

Wednesday Wisdom

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.

Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.

It doesn't matter if you are a lion or a gazelle.

When the sun comes up, you better be running.
